This article describes how to purchase and register a domain name from PetalHost using the Customer Portal. Domain registrations and renewals are non-refundable, because the domain registrar does not cancel or issue refunds for these items. When you register a domain, you own and control it, can point it to any hosting plan (with any company), and can transfer it to another domain registrar at any time.
Before you start
You must be logged in to the PetalHost Customer Portal to register or manage domains. If you do not know how to log in, please see: How to access the PetalHost Customer Portal.
Registering a domain
To register and purchase a domain from PetalHost using the Customer Portal, follow these steps:
- Log in to the Customer Portal.
- On the menu bar, click DOMAINS, and then click REGISTER A NEW DOMAIN.
- In the Find your new domain name text box, type the name of the domain that you want (for example,
yourbrand.com), and then click Search. - If the domain name is available, click Add to Cart.
- If you want to add any of the additional domains in the Suggested Domains list, click Add to Cart for each domain you want to include.
- Click Checkout when you are ready to check out. The Domains Configuration page appears.
Configuring domain options
- To add a hosting package to the domain, click No Hosting! Click to Add, and then select the hosting package you want to use.
- Select any additional options you want for the domain:
- DNS Management: Select this option to use external DNS hosting for the domain or to manage DNS records independently of a hosting plan.
- ID Protection (WHOIS privacy): Select this option to help protect your personal information. This feature prevents your personal contact information from appearing in the domain's public WHOIS record and can reduce spam and unwanted contact.
- Email Forwarding: Select this option to forward e-mail messages addressed to the domain (for example,
info@yourdomain.com) to an existing e-mail address.
- Under Nameservers, do one of the following:
- To use PetalHost nameservers (recommended when using PetalHost hosting), leave the default nameserver settings as they are.
- To use custom nameservers (for example, if you are using a different DNS or hosting provider), select the custom nameserver option and specify the nameservers provided by that provider, such as
ns1.example-dns.comandns2.example-dns.com.
- Click Continue. The Review & Checkout page appears.
Review and checkout
- On the Review & Checkout page, select the length of time for which you want to initially register the domain (for example, 1 year, 2 years, or more).
- Review your order details, including the domain name, registration period, and any add-ons such as DNS Management, ID Protection, or Email Forwarding.
- Click Checkout. The Checkout page appears.
- If you already have a PetalHost account and are logged in, your personal and billing information appears automatically. Otherwise, complete the required fields with your contact and billing details.
- Under Choose Account, select the account that you want to use for this order (if more than one is available).
- In the Domain Registrant Information section, select or enter the contact you want to use to register the domain. This becomes the official registrant information for the domain and should be accurate and up to date.
- Under Payment Details, select the payment method you want to use and verify the total amount due.
- Select the I have read and agree to the Terms of Service checkbox to confirm that you accept the PetalHost terms, including the non-refundable nature of domain registrations and renewals.
- Click Complete Order.
After the payment is processed, the system registers the domain. When the registration is complete, the domain appears in your Customer Portal under Domains, and you receive a confirmation e-mail.
