How to add WHOIS protection to an existing domain

Category: Customer Portal Category: Domain management Updated: December 20, 2025

This article describes how to add WHOIS protection to a domain you have already purchased through the Petal Host Customer Portal. WHOIS protection prevents your personal contact information from appearing in the domain's public record, helping reduce spam and unwanted contact.

If you are purchasing a new domain, you can add WHOIS protection during checkout. For information about how to do this, please see: How to register and buy a domain name.

Before you start

If you do not know how to log in to the Customer Portal, please see: How to access the PetalHost Customer Portal.

Adding WHOIS protection to an existing domain

To add WHOIS protection (also called ID Protection) to an existing domain, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the Customer Portal.
  2. On the menu bar, click DOMAINS, and then click MY DOMAINS.
  3. Click the domain for which you want to add WHOIS protection.
  4. (Optional) Filter the domain list by status. In the View sidebar, click Active, Expired, Cancelled, or Expiring.
  5. In the Manage sidebar, click Addons.
  6. Under Addons, in the ID Protection section, click Buy Now.

Complete the checkout process to purchase and activate WHOIS protection for your domain. Once activated, your personal contact information will be replaced with privacy-protected details in the public WHOIS database.
